![]() ![]() I have personally never used these myself but they swear by them in comparison to the normal Xbox One controllers. They have a three meter cable that is hardwired into the controller (aka: cannot be removed) which leaves no port to break. Though it's not alot in the big picture of lifetime console ownership or I guess to me, the permanent place it has next to my PC.īecause of this issue, two of the Twitch guys I watch the most have swapped over to the Xbox One Minis by BD & A / RealTree. So that's some considerable wear time on such a device compared to your average after work/school gamer. Now given, their actual job is to play video games for eight to twelve hours a day. ![]() (if you plug it into a 7 machine it gives you a prompt to upgrade today!) Also depending on how big of a gamer you are, most guys on Twitch have to replace them roughly every three months. ![]() If you go the dongle route it requires Windows 10. Update: Here's a picture I just snagged (sorry for the quality) of the port I'm talking about.Īctually after posting that some other Xbox One controller related thoughts came to mind that you & others might want to know. You know why? When I returned the last one I also broke down & bought their $25 wireless adapter plus a big ass pack of batteries. So now I'm on my forth and it's been working great. Once again, the whole controller works great, but the connector for the wire? Noooooooope. Yup, you guessed it, that's the end of that one. My now third xbox one controller lasted a single month, I brought it over to play emulators with my nephews, they put it on a coffee table, then being kids, pushed something on the other end of the table that then knocked it off. I could wiggle the connector & it would work if I physically pushed it into the controller while pressing down. Though three months later, boom, my new one stopped working as well. I generally treat my equipment like it belongs in a laboratory so I was certain this would not be a problem again. It's all about delicately protecting everything related to that port. The customer service person said it was basically the only reason people return xbox one controllers. Some people have guides to taking them apart & fixing the various issues with the connector, though I just returned mine. The controller itself still functions, you can use it with the wireless dongle or an actual xbox one console, but you can no longer use the usb port. I googled this & found a bunch of people experiencing the same problem. I didn't even believe it was possible for such a minor drop to have such damage, specifically in a controller a device meant to be handled by children. My first Xbox One controller went down after a less then foot total fall from my desk, to my desk drawer, and it broke simply from landing on the top of the controller while having the cable plugged in. If you have kids, protecting this weak point is a nightmare. The real issue is where the cable connects to the controller itself, you can bend it with your hand not even noticing what you've done. Instead of raging again I'll just short it down. I've gone through THREE of them in nine months, two of them only lasting a single, non-tragic drop. I've ranted all over these forums about how bad the Xbox One wired situation is. ![]()
